"This is almost even better than the face-to-face format, as the employees have to take on much more personal responsibility." We recently received this feedback from a major international customer from the automotive industry when we presented our concept for an online training course, which we had translated from a fully designed and already scheduled face-to-face training course for the customer. After all, face-to-face training was no longer possible, but the employees still urgently needed to be trained.

Many customers have reservations about switching to purely digital training, including our major customer in this case. They fear that the effectiveness of the training and many positive features of traditional face-to-face training will be lost in the "translation". The key to success here lies in "tailoring".

It is important to precisely analyze the objective, the target group, the technical requirements and technical skills. Depending on the framework conditions, suitable online tools must be selected and the methodological and content-related concept of the training must be designed on this basis.

When translating existing face-to-face training into online training, this can mean that the content and methods already planned have to be revised in order to guarantee the success of the measures.

Below we have outlined our process for customized online training:

Here you can see what this can look like in practice using an example structure of an online qualification on the subject of "Sales Leader" in an international context (worldwide implementation):

  • 7 modules / 1 module every week
  • Structure of the modules:
    • Input at the beginning of the week with video input from the trainer, video examples of training situations, key speeches, self-study material on the company sharepoint and tasks to be completed as a self-directed learning process.
    • During the week, work on the task independently and prepare the presentation of the results for the online meeting.
    • At the end of the week, a 90-minute moderated online meeting to present the results, exchange experiences and deepen the learning content and look ahead to the module topic of the coming week
  • Input at the beginning of the week with video input from the trainer, video examples of training situations, key speeches, self-study material on the company sharepoint and tasks to be completed as a self-directed learning process.
  • During the week, work on the task independently and prepare the presentation of the results for the online meeting.
