Science and technology are developing rapidly. This should actually make life easier. But it is not: mental illness is on the rise. Depression is now the most common cause of incapacity for work. In Germany, 15 percent of adults suffer from an anxiety disorder. We don't seem to be able to adapt mentally to the new reality quickly enough. Many people are constantly at odds with themselves. They always have the feeling that they are not living up to their own or other people's expectations - for example at work. In coaching sessions, external stressors such as deadline pressure, a heavy workload and constant changes at work are repeatedly cited as the cause of this. However, in addition to these external stressors, there are also internal stressors: for example, excessive demands on oneself, which are articulated in the form of an inner critic.
