Objectives and content

Global NetworkIn today’s global work setting virtual teams play an increasingly prominent role. Besides globalization it is matrix structures, flexible work arrangements and new technologies that make it necessary (and possible) to work in virtual teams. But despite its growing popularity we cannot take for granted that virtual teams are in fact working more effectively and successful.
Leading virtual teams is clearly more demanding than leading teams that are co-located. In the presentation differences will be highlighted and strategies are introduced to deal with it. Management skills for leading a virtual team are different, if not opposite, to those leading a co-located team. Typical stumbling stones will be discussed as well as key measures to overcome these.

In addition, tools play an important role to support bridging distances, examples in implementing these tools in a virtual team setting are given. The role of intercultural cooperation is highlighted and strategies to cope with intercultural differences are introduced. You will take home a better understanding of the potential of virtual teams – if managed successfully.

The presenter has been working in virtual teams in different settings during her entire career. For 10 years she has been a trainer and coach and has been focussing on working with virtual teams as well as training their leaders.
